Regarding the Documentary Stamp Tax
In our state, documents that transfer interest in Florida real property, are assessed what is known as a "documentary stamp tax." This tax applies to warranty deeds, quit claim deeds and similar documents. This tax is also levied on other kinds of obligations to pay money which are executed, signed and delivered in our state. This would include mortgages, bonds, notes, liens and certain renewal notes.
As with most taxes, there are many rules and laws which regulate the various aspects of documentary stamp tax including how it is paid, by whom, the rate at which it is levied, and more.
