2018 TIP 18A01-01 Florida Sales Tax Rates on Cars for Nonresident Purchasers
When a non-resident buys a car from a Florida car dealer, then there is a way to limit the sales tax charged to the customer’s home state sales tax rate. The customer must fill out the Form DR-123 and promise to take the car out of the state within a limited amount of time. By doing so, the Florida car dealer is supposed to charge Florida sales tax, but at the rate of the purchaser’s home state. Every year, the Florida Department of Revenue published a report notifying Florida car dealers the sales tax rates imposed by each state around the county. This is a must have document for any car dealer.
This article announces that the Florida Department of Revenue issued its 2018 publication for 2018 sales tax rates on motor vehicle sales to residents of another state. TIP 18A01-01, Motor Vehicle Sales Tax Rates by State as of December 31, 2017, can be downloaded below. For anyone needing a quick refresher on how to treat sales of motor vehicles to residents of another state, there is a link at the end of the article discussing this.
